Mass email blunder by Bitmex, says ‘Investigating Extent of Impact’

‘Someone’ from the Crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX forgot to use blind copy (bcc) on a mass email, resulting in revealing, and potentially compromising, user’s email addresses.

Acknowledged by Bitmex in an official statement published November 1st, today, the platform mentioned that they “are aware” of the mishap and that they have taken all the necessary measures required to meter the level of damage caused. :

“Our team have acted immediately to contain the issue and we are taking steps to understand the extent of the impact. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to identify the root cause of the fault and we will be in touch with any users affected by the issue.”

As expected, the derivatives exchange is facing heat from the community members and influencers of this space, while recommending others to change their email addresses as soon as possible.

Jake Chervinsky, a well-known lawyer in the crypto-space, opined on the issue by stating,

Following news of the leak, Binance crypto exchange advised all affected BitMEX users who also hold an account on Binance to change their Binane account email immediately.

OKEx, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, also released a statement on its Twitter handle and requested users using the same email ID for both exchanges to change it immediately. The exchange said,
