It may not be the first but Huobi Global announced on Tuesday the launch of the ‘Acute Angle’ blockchain phone retailing at $515. The blockchain phone will make its debut in Southeast Asia, with a U.S. and European launch promised soon afterwards. Huobi have also enabled purchase of the smartphone through their native token (HT).
The Acute Angle runs on the android operating system and is a product of Whole Network, a firm that Huobi has previously invested in. Huobi have also noted that Whole network’s NODE token is to be listed on Huobi Prime.
The Acute Angle is initially available throughout China but a Q4 2019 launch is planned for Southeast Asia. European and U.S. rollout dates are expected to be released but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Livio Weng, the CEO of Huobi Global commented on the importance of mobile phones and the potential synergy with blockchain technology in stating:
‘We think blockchain phones are a promising area for future blockchain industry development. As the industry develops and as innovations like 5G become increasingly integrated into our telecommunications systems, we believe more and more crypto communities will want to trade and transact from mobile devices.’
The phone includes built-in crypto-ready features such as push trade notifications, a dapp wallet, and an optional cold-wallet plugin. Huobi has also hinted that the ‘Acute’ is the first in a series of future planned smartphones which will inevitably include the emerging ‘5G’ technology.
