A postal network of over 1,000 offices is now piloting a new crypto program in Croatia.
The 1,016 Zadar Post offices will convert their customers cryptocurrencies into fiat. According to a press release the program will begin by converting the 6 most known crypto-assets including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Stellar (XLM), Ripple (XRP) and EOS.
The post stated :
‘The goal of the Croatian Post is to offer the possibility of replacing crypto valued in all major settlements and tourist centers in Croatia.’
The pilot program is being run in conjunction with crypto payments processor Electrocoin. Founded in 2014 and ‘is engaged in the trading of crypt valued and processing crypto payments. We buy and sell crypt valued from physical, legal and institutional clients and allow marketers to accept payments in crypto valves in Croatia and the rest of the European Union.’ Electrocoin also operate crypto-exchange Bitcoin-mjenjacina.
Priority of digitising the Croatian postal system was emphasised through the press release:
‘Digitalization is one of the Croatian postal development strategies and a driver of numerous business projects. Entering the Digital Currency Market Croatian Post confirms its position as one of the leaders in digital transformation.’
This recent development follows a similar move made last year by the Austrain postal system when they teamed up with BitPanda. This partnership has allowed its customers to purchase cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and IOTA in over 400 post offices.
